IndiaAI Mission Unveils AIKosha, Compute Portal & New AI Initiatives

In a significant step towards strengthening India’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, Union Minister for Electronics & IT, Railways, and Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw launched several key AI initiatives under the IndiaAI Mission in New Delhi. These include AIKosha: IndiaAI Datasets Platform, the IndiaAI Compute Portal, the AI Competency Framework, iGOT-AI, the IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program, and the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge.

Launch of AIKosha: IndiaAI Datasets Platform

AIKosha is a secured platform designed to facilitate AI innovation by providing access to datasets, AI models, and use cases. It features sandbox capabilities, an integrated development environment (IDE), tools, and tutorials to support AI research and development. AIKosha is built with content discoverability, AI readiness scoring, and stringent security features, including data encryption and secure APIs, ensuring safe and reliable AI deployment.

IndiaAI Compute Portal: Affordable AI Compute for All

The IndiaAI Compute Portal is a game-changer in AI accessibility, offering cloud-based AI computing resources at subsidized rates to startups, researchers, and enterprises. The portal currently provides access to 10,000 GPUs, with an additional 8,693 GPUs to be integrated soon. It supports high-performance computing with GPUs like NVIDIA H100, AMD MI300x, Intel Gaudi 2, and AWS Tranium, ensuring cost-effective AI model training and deployment. Eligible users can receive up to 40% subsidies on AI compute services.

AI Competency Framework: Upskilling Public Sector Officials

To enhance AI literacy among government officials, the AI Competency Framework was introduced. This initiative will help officials map AI competencies and undergo specialized upskilling programs, ensuring efficient AI adoption in public governance and policy-making.

iGOT-AI: AI-Powered Learning for Government Officials

The launch of iGOT-AI, an advanced AI-powered personalized content recommendation system, aims to enhance the learning experience of government officials on the iGOT Karmayogi platform. The system uses AI to recommend relevant training modules, fostering continuous professional development.

IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program

The IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program, in collaboration with Station F and HEC Paris, will provide ten selected Indian AI startups with a four-month immersive program in Paris. The initiative offers mentorship, networking, and global expansion opportunities, accelerating India’s AI startup ecosystem.

IndiaAI Innovation Challenge: Driving AI Solutions for Societal Impact

Under the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge, 30 AI solutions addressing healthcare, governance, climate change, agriculture, and education have been shortlisted from over 900 submissions. These AI-driven innovations aim to tackle critical challenges, fostering large-scale socio-economic transformation.

IndiaAI FutureSkills Fellowship

To bridge the talent gap in AI, the IndiaAI FutureSkills Fellowship was introduced. AI Fellowship students were recognized for their research contributions, while IndiaAI Data Labs are being established in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to train professionals in data annotation and curation across various industries.

Building India’s AI Leadership

MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized that the IndiaAI Compute Portal represents 45% of the IndiaAI Mission’s funding, making it the largest component. He highlighted the structured government-led AI investment of ₹10,372 crore and its role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Vaishnaw noted that India is ranked #1 in AI skill penetration and is among the Top 10 AI nations globally. He reiterated that ethical, consent-based datasets under India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for AI will enhance innovation while reducing reliance on foreign AI data sources.

The launch of AIKosha, IndiaAI Compute Portal, and other AI initiatives marks a crucial step in democratizing AI access, fostering research-driven innovation, and positioning India as a global leader in AI.
