The Karnataka government has announced plans to develop a 200-acre semiconductor park in the upcoming KWIN (Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation) City near Bengaluru, news agency PTI reported. Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil shared the update at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, highlighting that the park will be built with state-of-the-art infrastructure to support semiconductor companies and drive innovation at both state and national levels.

Patil said the government is focused on attracting major global technology investors and channelling their investments into fast-growing sectors such as semiconductors, drones, solar energy and Industry 5.0. Karnataka, already home to more than 800 R&D centres, 100 chip-design firms and over 18,000 start-ups in areas like AI, deep tech and quantum computing, aims to strengthen its leadership in advanced technologies.

Out of the 5,000 acres earmarked for KWIN City, a substantial area will be dedicated to research and development supported by a strong innovation ecosystem. Patil added that the semiconductor park will become a central hub for chip innovation in Karnataka and eventually for the entire country. The state has also set aside ₹600 crore to encourage tech enterprises and is planning a Centre of Excellence for AI and Quantum Computing in Dharwad. Karnataka continues to collaborate with global partners and promote forward-looking policies across ESDM, biotechnology and emerging technologies.
