Taiwanese Cleanroom Firms See Record Demand Amid Global Chip Boom

Taiwan’s cleanroom equipment and engineering firms are witnessing a significant surge in demand as semiconductor giants ramp up chip production globally, particularly in the U.S. and Southeast Asia. Companies like United Integrated Services Co. (UIS), a key supplier to TSMC, are seeing record-breaking growth. The UIS secured contracts worth USD 2.57 billion (NTD) 83.68 billion between January and May 2025. These contracts were largely driven by TSMC’s $65 billion investment in three fabs in Arizona. With one fab already operational and another nearing completion, UIS’s total backlog has hit NTD 132.27 billion (USD 4.45 billion), with projections pointing to its best-ever annual performance.
L&K Engineering Co. is also riding the growth wave, securing NTD 95.76 billion (USD 3.23 billion) in new contracts during the same period. Much of this comes from projects in Southeast Asia, including UMC’s new fab in Singapore, set to begin production in 2026. L&K is also collaborating with Vanguard International Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors on a 12-inch fab in Singapore, expected to start operations in 2027.
Other players like Acter Group Corp. and Yankey Engineering Co. are also seeing strong momentum. Acter’s order book has grown to NTD 46 billion (USD 1.55 billion), supported by packaging company SPIL, while Yankey Engineering holds NTD 40.67 billion (USD 1.37 billion) in orders, partly from ASML’s Taiwan expansion.
With cleanrooms being essential to chip production, Taiwan’s expertise is proving vital in meeting the semiconductor industry’s growing global needs.
