In the lead-up to World Environment Day 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has launched a nationwide campaign titled “One Nation, One Mission: End Plastic Pollution.” The initiative reflects India’s strong commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainable lifestyles, in line with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav introduced the campaign through a video message on social media, urging citizens to move beyond awareness and take real action against plastic pollution. World Environment Day, observed every year on June 5, is a global platform by the United Nations that promotes environmental awareness and action.

This year’s campaign focuses on eliminating single-use plastics by encouraging people to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and responsible waste practices. The key goals include reducing plastic waste, promoting recycling, raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic, and encouraging the use of sustainable alternatives.

Various activities will be held nationwide, involving schools, colleges, industry, civil society, government bodies, and community groups. These will include cleanup drives at public places, awareness campaigns via street plays, poster contests, and social media, as well as workshops, webinars, and educational programs. Events such as marathons, hackathons, exhibitions, and art competitions using recycled plastic will also be organized.

Communities, institutions, and local bodies are encouraged to actively participate in waste segregation and recycling efforts. All stakeholders have been invited to document and share their campaign activities on the ‘Meri LiFE’ portal, helping build a mass movement for sustainability.

The Ministry urges every citizen to join hands in this mission and take simple steps toward ending plastic pollution for a cleaner, greener future.
