India’s progress in artificial intelligence (AI) skilling and infrastructure development has been hailed by Vivek Mohindra, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy as Dell Technologies. Speaking at Dell Tech World in Las Vegas, Mohindra highlighted the crucial role of government in preparing the workforce for the AI era and praised India for its strong efforts in this direction. He noted that Dell has had a significant presence in India for over 30 years and now holds its second-largest global workforce in the country, across various business functions.
Emphasizing that AI is rapidly changing the job landscape, Mohindra said that some traditional roles may disappear but there will be many other roles which will be enhanced with AI tools and there will entirely new roles which will emerge. He added that Dell is working closely with Jayant Chaudhary, India’s Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, to align AI training programs with evolving industry needs.
Despite recent layoffs affecting around 10% of its global staff in FY2025, Dell remains optimistic about the AI opportunity. The company predicts that the addressable AI market will grow from $124 billion in 2023 to $295 billion by 2027. Founder and CEO Michael Dell also stressed that AI could add $15 trillion to the global economy by 2030 and predicted a major shift of generative AI workloads to on-premise infrastructure in the next two years.
With a presence in over 170 countries and 2,200 service centres, Dell aims to make AI more accessible and is positioning itself to lead in this rapidly growing sector.
