Update Now: Govt Warns iPhone, iPad Users in India of High-Risk Bug

0

The Indian government has issued a high-risk warning for iPhone and iPad users, urging them to update their devices immediately. According to CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), older versions of iOS and iPadOS—specifically those before iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3—have a critical vulnerability that could let harmful apps crash or freeze the device. In some cases, the flaw may even render the device unusable, a condition known as “bricking.”

The problem lies in a system called Darwin notifications, which helps different parts of Apple devices communicate. CERT-In warns that even basic apps can misuse this system to send harmful commands that could disrupt device operations.

Apple has already released security updates to fix the issue. Users are advised to go to their device settings and install the latest software immediately. Apple also recommends avoiding apps from unknown sources and being alert to unusual behavior like overheating, battery drain, or repeated crashes.

This warning comes shortly after a global spyware alert from Apple, where some users received notifications about targeted attacks.
