Design is more than just aesthetics—it is a powerful tool for innovation and progress, shaping both India’s legacy and future development, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal stated at the 44th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Design (NID) on February 27, 2025. The ceremony was graced by President Droupadi Murmu, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Minister of State Jitin Prasada, and other dignitaries.
Minister Goyal highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Design in India’, urging the graduates to turn this vision into reality. He noted that designers are problem-solvers and innovators who will make a global impact. “You will be the architects of the future—the world is waiting for you,” he remarked.
He also underscored the significance of design across sectors, from space exploration and semiconductors to gaming, sustainability, and digital technologies. Referring to the Chandrayaan mission, he pointed out that its success began with its satellite design, demonstrating India’s growing expertise in innovation.
Encouraging students to think big, he emphasized the need for large-scale innovation to cater to India’s 1.4 billion population, urging them to disrupt industries and leave a lasting impact.
At the convocation, 430 students from various design disciplines received their degrees, marking a new chapter in India’s design and innovation journey.
