India’s Smartphone Shipments Hit 5-Year High Amid Festive Surge
India’s smartphone market witnessed a strong revival in the third quarter of 2025, touching a five-year high with 48 million units shipped, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). The market grew 4.3% year-over-year (YoY), driven by festive season demand, aggressive online promotions, and attractive financing schemes.
Premium smartphones continued to dominate the growth story, with the segment expanding 10.7% YoY and its market share rising from 3% to 4%. The demand for high-end models remained strong, supported by successful new launches and discounts on previous versions. Samsung secured the top position in Q3 2025, followed by OPPO and OnePlus. The Galaxy S24 series accounted for nearly one-fourth of total shipments in the mid-premium category.
However, despite this festive boost, analysts expect an overall shipment decline in Q4 2025 due to high inventory levels, increasing component costs, and currency fluctuations. IDC projects total shipments for 2025 to fall below 150 million units. Meanwhile, the average selling price (ASP) of smartphones in India rose to a record $294, up 13.7% YoY, reflecting the growing consumer shift towards premium and high-performance devices.
The data underscores a maturing market with evolving consumer preferences and increasing price sensitivity.
