India has emerged as a global leader in artificial intelligence skills and has consciously chosen a policy path that avoids over-regulation to encourage innovation, said Jitin Prasada while speaking at the AI Impact Summit. He said India’s strength lies in its skilled talent base and a flexible policy framework that supports rapid innovation.

The minister noted that India currently has the highest level of AI skill penetration, giving it a strong advantage in building future-ready technologies. He said the government remains agile and open to ideas, continuously fine-tuning its policies and programmes based on emerging needs and technological trends. This adaptive approach, he added, allows innovation to grow without being slowed by unnecessary rules.

Highlighting infrastructure support, Prasada said the government is making efforts to ensure access to graphics processing units (GPUs) at the most affordable cost possible. This step, he explained, will especially benefit startups, young innovators and future generations with strong design and engineering capabilities.

He also clarified that India is not focused on competing directly with the world’s largest AI models. Instead, the country is prioritising scalable AI solutions that deliver real impact within India. These include models designed for specific sectors, regions or communities, where technology can directly improve lives.

Prasada emphasised that India’s goal is to democratise technology by making it widely accessible and meaningful. Going beyond access, he said the focus is now on building scalable, practical AI solutions, positioning India strongly for the next phase of the AI revolution.
