AI Adoption Boosts Employability as India Leads Global Tech Talent
Over 40% of India’s IT and gig workforce are now using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for automation, data analytics, and creative tasks, marking a significant shift toward tech-driven productivity, according to the India Skills Report 2026. Released by ETS in partnership with CII, AICTE, and AIU, the study gathered insights from over one lakh candidates and 1,000 employers across key sectors.
Employability in India has improved to 56.35% in 2026, up from 54.81% in 2025, reflecting better job readiness and skill adaptability. Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities such as Lucknow, Kochi, and Chandigarh are emerging as major employability hubs, narrowing the urban–rural divide. For the first time, women’s employability at 54% has surpassed men’s at 51.5%, driven by digital skill initiatives and flexible work options.
India now contributes 16% of the world’s AI talent, projected to reach 1.25 million professionals by 2027. The report noted that 70% of IT and 50% of BFSI companies have adopted AI-based hiring tools. Looking ahead, sectors such as technology, BFSI, manufacturing, renewable energy, and healthcare are expected to drive hiring, with India poised to emerge as a global talent hub amid an anticipated worldwide labour shortage.
