Qualcomm has officially introduced its latest flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, designed to power the next generation of premium Android smartphones. The new chipset comes with the third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, delivering up to 20% better performance compared to its predecessor. Alongside this, the upgraded GPU offers a 23% boost in graphics capabilities, while the improved Hexagon NPU is 37% faster, enabling smarter and more responsive on-device AI experiences.

Efficiency has also been significantly enhanced. The CPU now consumes 35% less power and the GPU uses 20% less energy, which means smartphones equipped with the new processor will benefit from extended battery life. Qualcomm has also integrated more AI accelerators into the Hexagon NPU, working in sync with the Qualcomm Sensing Hub to support advanced AI-driven features. These upgrades allow smartphones to deliver personalized interactions and even perform tasks autonomously.

One of the most exciting additions is support for Advanced Professional Video (APV) Codec recording, a first for mobile platforms. This feature brings professional-grade video capture and improved flexibility for post-production, raising the bar for mobile videography.

Xiaomi has already announced that its Xiaomi 17 series will be among the first to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Other leading smartphone makers including Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, OPPO, iQOO, Realme, and Sony are also set to integrate the new chipset into their upcoming flagship devices.
