HMD has introduced the Fuse, a new smartphone designed specifically for children, with safety and privacy as its top priorities. The device is equipped with HarmBlock+, the world’s first AI system that automatically blocks nude or sexual images across the camera, apps, and even live streams. Developed in collaboration with child-safety company SafeToNet, the AI is hardwired into the phone’s operating system, making it impossible to turn off or override. It operates entirely on the device itself, guaranteeing that no data is shared externally.
The Fuse also gives parents complete control over how the phone grows with their child. Initially, it can function as a basic device limited to calls, texts, and location tracking. Over time, parents can unlock apps and features to suit the child’s age. Additional tools include strict parental controls for screen time, contact whitelisting for approved numbers, and real-time location tracking with alerts if a child leaves a safe zone.
The phone is also eco-friendly, shipping with two interchangeable cases made from 100% recycled materials, including one with a foldable LED light ring for selfies.
Currently available through Vodafone UK at £33 per month with a £30 upfront fee, the Fuse will expand to more markets, starting with Australia.
