MediaTek sees a significant growth opportunity in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market as local manufacturers increasingly adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing technologies. According to Rita Wu, Director of Product Marketing – Automotive Platform at MediaTek, the company plans to expand its footprint in India’s automotive sector by focusing on AI-powered solutions, scalable system-on-chips (SoCs), and advanced connectivity tools.
Wu emphasized India’s strong AI talent and the willingness of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate AI and high-computing systems in vehicles. She noted that Indian EV makers are not only exploring AI but also demanding powerful processors like CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs to enable high-end solutions, which presents a big advantage for the market.
Energy efficiency, especially in EVs, is another area MediaTek is targeting. Since power management is crucial in electric mobility, their roadmap includes AI and compute capabilities designed for optimized performance and low power consumption.
MediaTek, which originally focused on mobile phone chips, has expanded into the automotive sector and satellite communications. Sharique Khan, Director for Automotive Platform Product Marketing in Europe, added that even Indian two-wheeler EV makers are now integrating MediaTek’s AI-enabled chips for infotainment systems.
He predicted that within the next three to four years, AI adoption and advanced computing will extend from premium vehicles to more affordable segments in India. Customized chip solutions will also be vital to meet the specific needs of the Indian EV ecosystem, making the country a strategic focus for MediaTek’s automotive ambitions.
