Nvidia, the global leader in AI chips, has hired two top Chinese-origin researchers to boost its artificial intelligence capabilities. The news was shared by the new recruits, Zhu Banghua and Jiao Jiantao on social media platform. They also shared photos with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Both the new recruits are alumni of China’s prestigious Tsinghua University. This move reflects the growing impact of Chinese talent in the global AI race.
Zhu, who recently earned his PhD from UC Berkeley, will join Nvidia’s Nemotron team as a principal research scientist. This team focuses on building powerful AI agents capable of performing tasks like coding, logical reasoning, and handling both text and images. He also teaches at the University of Washington and highlighted that the team aims to develop human-like AI systems and open-source much of its work.
Jiao, a Stanford PhD and current faculty member at UC Berkeley, has joined Nvidia with a focus on pushing the limits of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI).
The duo previously co-founded a California-based AI startup, Nexusflow AI, which developed a model to rival OpenAI’s GPT-4o. Nvidia’s latest hires come amid fierce competition among tech giants like Meta and Google to secure top global AI talent.
