The global tablet market saw a strong rebound in the first quarter of 2025, with shipments rising by 8.5% year-over-year to reach 36.8 million units, according to a report by Canalys (now under Omdia). The growth was driven by consumer and education-related demand, along with government subsidies and import surges in some countries.

China led the growth, boosted by Lunar New Year sales and state-backed retail incentives. In the US, fears over potential tariffs caused a spike in imports during January, though shipments dipped again in February once tariff exemptions were extended.

Apple continued to be at the top position as the company shipped 13.7 million iPads, an increase of 14% as compared to first quarter of previous year. Meanwhile, Samsung was at the second position with 6.6 million tablets which was a decline of 5.2% from the previous year. A major shift came as Xiaomi overtook Lenovo for the first time, with a 56% jump to 3.1 million units. Lenovo followed with 2.5 million units, while Huawei shipped 2.4 million.

Analysts noted that Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Huawei, and Honor are expanding beyond China, offering affordable tablets paired with strong IoT ecosystems. As competition heats up, the global tablet market is becoming more dynamic, especially in the entry and mid-range segments.
