Apple is set to expand its manufacturing footprint in India by starting local production of AirPods, reinforcing the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This move marks AirPods as the second Apple product, after iPhones, to benefit from India’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. According to industry sources, non-ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) AirPods will be produced at Foxconn’s Hyderabad facility, with production expected to begin by April. However, Apple has yet to confirm this officially.

India’s true wireless stereo (TWS) market witnessed a 14% year-on-year growth in 2024, driven by strong seasonal demand, affordable pricing, and wider availability, according to Counterpoint Research. Meanwhile, Apple has recorded impressive iPhone export figures, reaching ₹1 lakh crore in just 10 months (April-January) of FY25, a 30% increase from the previous fiscal year. In January alone, iPhone exports touched ₹19,000 crore, an all-time high.

India remains a key market for Apple. CEO Tim Cook recently highlighted the company’s record-breaking growth in the country, with the iPhone emerging as the top-selling model during the October-December 2024 quarter. Apple also introduced the new AirPods 4, featuring an open-ear design and enhanced comfort.
