A senior official from the U.S. Commerce Department has confirmed that China has not yet received any of Nvidia’s advanced H200 artificial intelligence chips. Speaking at a hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Assistant Secretary David Peters said no H200 chips have been sold to Chinese buyers so far.

The issue has gained attention after the Donald Trump administration recently allowed limited China-bound sales under strict conditions, a move that faced criticism from lawmakers. Officials argue that controlled sales could slow Chinese rivals like Huawei from catching up with global leaders such as Advanced Micro Devices.

However, concerns remain that the chips could be misused for military purposes. Peters also acknowledged ongoing chip smuggling, citing concerns raised by Bill Huizenga and reports involving Chinese startup DeepSeek, adding that enforcement efforts are a top priority.
