Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal concluded his visit to Brussels from October 26–28, 2025, marking a significant step forward in the ongoing India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. During the visit, he held extensive discussions with Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, and his team on key outstanding issues related to the FTA.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to conclude the India–EU FTA by the end of 2025, in line with the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier this year. The discussions focused on achieving a balanced and mutually beneficial trade deal that reflects the strong strategic partnership and political trust between India and the European Union.

Minister Goyal emphasised the importance of addressing both tariff and non-tariff barriers to create a fair, transparent, and predictable trade environment. The talks covered India’s key priorities in labour-intensive sectors and the need for preferential treatment in certain areas. Progress was made on finalising non-sensitive industrial tariff lines, while discussions on steel, automobiles, and the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will continue due to their complexity.

Both sides expressed optimism about resolving the remaining issues soon. To take the dialogue forward, a technical team from the EU, led by the Director-General for Trade, will visit India next week to work toward a constructive conclusion based on the progress made in Brussels.
