U.S.-based memory chipmaker Micron Technology has announced plans to build a second semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taiwan, expanding its production footprint to meet rising global demand for artificial intelligence hardware.

The new fabrication plant will be developed at the Tongluo site recently acquired from Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC). According to the company, the facility will focus on producing advanced DRAM technologies, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is widely used in AI accelerators and data centre applications.

Micron confirmed that the Tongluo P5 acquisition has been completed, and the upcoming fab will be similar in scale to its existing plant in Miaoli County. Construction is expected to begin by the end of fiscal 2026.

Micron has been steadily expanding its global manufacturing capacity. The company earlier announced major investments in memory production facilities in the United States and Japan, reflecting the growing demand for advanced memory chips that power AI systems and high-performance computing.
