India’s Tablet Shipments Fall 32% in H1 2025 as Demand Weakens

India’s tablet PC market recorded a sharp 32.3% fall in the first half of 2025, with overall shipments slipping to 2.15 million units, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). The fall was mainly attributed to reduced government-funded manifesto programs, which have historically contributed significantly to commercial tablet sales. The downturn intensified in the second quarter of 2025, where shipments plunged 42.1% year-on-year, compared to an 18.4% decline in the first quarter.
Within product categories, detachable tablets showed some resilience, registering an 18.9% year-on-year growth. However, the slate tablet segment, which dominates the market, saw a sharp 44.4% drop, pulling down overall volumes. Samsung has continued to the market leader despite fall in the shipment with a 41.3% share. Samsung has been able to maintain the top spot due to strong performance in both commercial and consumer segments. Along with this, education-focused public sector projects and a strong inventory push through online channels has also solidified Samsung’s top spot.
Meanwhile, Lenovo was at the second spot with 12.3% share, showing notable growth in the SMB and enterprise segments of the commercial market whereas Apple was at the third place at it has 11.8% market share, holding steady demand in the premium consumer segment despite the overall slowdown.
