Union Minister of State Jitin Prasada has said that the government is strongly committed to providing Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) at very affordable rates so that students, researchers, and innovators can freely train AI models and build future-ready solutions. Speaking to ANI during the AI Impact Festival, he said that India has some of the best talent in the world, and the government wants to ensure that AI becomes accessible to all.

Prasada explained that the goal is to democratise technology by giving young people the tools they need to understand and shape the future. He emphasised that access to GPUs is a key part of this effort, as these powerful chips allow faster processing, image handling, and the efficient running of AI programs.

Since the launch of the IndiaAI Mission in 2024, the country has made rapid progress in strengthening its AI computing infrastructure. Against an initial target of 10,000 GPUs, India has already reached nearly 38,000 GPUs, making advanced AI resources more affordable and widely available.

The IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Union Cabinet with a budget of ₹10,371.92 crore, aims to promote the vision of “Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India.” It also supports national Centres of Excellence for AI to boost research and innovation.

During the event, Prasada encouraged students and stakeholders to share policy suggestions, noting that collaborative efforts are essential for building the best solutions. He added that the government does not want to over-regulate AI, but instead wants innovation and research to grow freely.
