Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, recently chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA), reaffirming the Government’s commitment to making India a global leader in sixth-generation (6G) wireless technology. Joined by Telecom Secretary Dr. Neeraj Mittal, the Minister evaluated updates presented by the Alliance’s working groups, which highlighted India’s strategic advancements in indigenous 6G development.

During the session, Chairpersons and members of B6GA’s various working groups showcased breakthroughs in Indigenous Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, development of intelligent and inclusive networks to connect rural areas, and the potential of 6G applications across key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and sustainability. These updates reflect India’s broader vision of leveraging 6G not only for technological leadership but also for inclusive digital growth.

Minister Scindia urged the Alliance to align its efforts with the ambitious goal of achieving 10% of global Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in 6G technologies. He stressed the importance of creating a clear and strategic roadmap backed by policy support, enhanced research funding, and timely spectrum allocation to ensure India’s competitive edge in the global 6G race. He also emphasized the need for regular monitoring of progress at the working group level to maintain momentum.

Since its last review in September 2024, the Bharat 6G Alliance has expanded to include over 80 member organizations, with more than 30 innovative startups now part of the initiative. This growing network highlights India’s increasing focus on homegrown innovation and collaborative research in next-gen telecom technologies.

Launched in March 2023, the Bharat 6G Alliance was formed to operationalize India’s 6G Vision Document. It brings together academia, industry, startups, and public institutions in a collective effort to build a robust, future-ready 6G ecosystem—driving India towards global technological leadership.
