Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, visited the upcoming Tata Semiconductor ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging) facility in Jagiroad, Assam, highlighting a significant step in strengthening India-Japan technology ties. Fukushiro was accompanied by a 52-member delegation and his visit marks one of the most high-level foreign engagements in northeastern state in recent years.
Commenting on the visit of Japan’s House Speaker, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that it reflects state’s commitment to turning investment into action. “Advantage Assam 2.0 is more than just a summit—it’s a mission underway,” he said while talking to the reporters at the site. Sarma further stated that the visit of international industry leaders and delegates like Nukaga Fukushiro and Adani officials also highlights the state’s increasing global interest.
Apart from Tata Semiconductor ATMP plant, the Japanese delegation also visited a Japan-assisted Skill Training Centre being developed at Amingaon in collaboration with ASEAN-One Co. Once completed, the centre aims to train around 50,000 young people in Assam, preparing them for global job opportunities, especially in Japan. A Japanese Language Testing facility will also be established to enhance employability.
Sarma noted that Nukaga’s visit follows an invitation extended during his own trip to Tokyo in January, and called it “a symbol of Japan’s deep commitment and trust.”
The delegation also visited IIT Guwahati to explore possible collaborations in education and advanced technology.
