Samsung Halts Galaxy Z TriFold Sales, Future Remains Unclear

Samsung is quietly phasing out its Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone, barely a few months after its big arrival. First, they’re stopping sales in South Korea, and once the shelves are empty there, the U.S. is next.
The TriFold was Samsung’s first crack at a smartphone with three folds — a dual-hinge setup that opens into a tablet-sized screen. It was clearly aimed at people who love buying the newest tech and want something premium. But you could only get it through Samsung itself, not at your usual carrier stores, so they were keeping things pretty limited right from the start.
The phone came with a top-tier processor and had cameras and multitasking features that showed off Samsung’s ambition in foldable tech. The software let you move apps around easily and made using multiple screens feel pretty slick.
Even with all those flashy features, building the TriFold was no walk in the park. The complexity and expensive production seem to have pushed Samsung to call it quits. There has been no response regarding the successor of the TriFold, however, some of the design ideas could still end up in other foldables down the road.
The reported phasing out of Galaxy Z TriFold reflects that it is difficult to mainstream the bold new smartphone designs. New shapes and experiences are introduced by the companies but trying to win the market is always a gamble.
