Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphone lineup in India with the introduction of the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The new series is designed to deliver high-end performance, advanced imaging capabilities, and long-lasting battery life, positioning the devices as premium offerings in the competitive flagship smartphone segment.
A major highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Series is the company’s expanded collaboration with Leica. The partnership has evolved beyond conventional co-engineering and now follows a deeper co-creation model. This includes joint development in optics, sensors, colour science, and imaging workflows. Xiaomi says the goal is to deliver a flagship smartphone experience where users do not have to compromise between camera performance, processing power, and battery capacity.
The Xiaomi 17 is positioned as a compact flagship device. It features a 16cm display and comes in a slim design measuring 8.06mm in thickness while weighing 191 grams, making it comfortable for one-handed use. The phone includes ultra-thin bezels enabled by Xiaomi’s LIPO manufacturing process and adopts a “Golden Arc” design that improves grip and ergonomics.
Durability has also been a key focus. The Xiaomi 17 uses a reinforced aluminium frame along with Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 for better protection. It also carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for resistance against water and dust.
Battery life is another standout feature of the device. The smartphone is equipped with a 6330mAh battery powered by Xiaomi’s Surge battery technology. By incorporating higher silicon content, the technology increases energy density without significantly increasing the size of the battery. The device supports 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless charging for faster power replenishment.
Performance on the Xiaomi 17 is driven by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, offering high-speed computing capabilities suited for multitasking, gaming, and demanding applications.
In terms of photography, the Xiaomi 17 features a triple 50MP Leica camera system designed to deliver natural colours and detailed images. The camera setup includes a 60mm floating telephoto lens capable of capturing portraits, macro shots from as close as 10cm, and AI-assisted zoom up to 20x. The smartphone also includes a 50MP front camera with autofocus for enhanced selfies and video calls.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is designed for photography enthusiasts and professional content creators. It introduces a 1-inch LOFIC camera sensor that improves dynamic range, allowing the camera to capture greater detail in both bright highlights and dark shadows within a single frame.
The device also features a 200MP Leica telephoto system with mechanical optical zoom ranging between 75mm and 100mm. Unlike traditional smartphone cameras that switch between fixed zoom levels, this system enables continuous optical zoom, allowing users to adjust focal length smoothly while composing shots.
For video recording, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra supports Dolby Vision and ACES Log capture at up to 4K 120fps, enabling advanced colour grading and professional editing workflows.
Both smartphones come with OLED displays offering up to 3,500 nits peak brightness and LTPO adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz for smoother visuals and improved power efficiency.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is priced starting at Rs 1,29,999, while the Xiaomi 17 begins at Rs 89,999. Both models will be available in India from 18 March 2026 through Amazon, Xiaomi’s official website, and retail stores.
