Reliance Reaffirms Battery Manufacturing Plans Amid Tech Transfer Reports

Reliance Industries has clarified that its battery storage manufacturing plans in India remain firmly on track, despite recent media reports suggesting a pause in lithium-ion cell production. Addressing the issue, a Reliance Industries spokesperson told Reuters that there has been no change in the company’s strategy to build a world-class battery storage ecosystem, covering everything from cell manufacturing to fully containerised energy storage systems.

The spokesperson added that the project is progressing as planned and aligned with targeted timelines. Earlier reports had claimed that Reliance slowed down its cell manufacturing plans after talks with a Chinese technology partner did not move forward due to tighter Chinese restrictions on overseas technology transfers.

These controls, announced last year, apply to key lithium battery components used in energy storage and electric vehicles. While such global policy changes have affected several companies, Reliance maintains that its long-term vision for battery manufacturing and energy storage in India remains unchanged and continues to move ahead steadily.
