IBM has announced a major skill development initiative in India, aiming to train 5 million learners in advanced technologies by 2030. The programme will focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum computing, cloud technologies and data skills. The training will be delivered through IBM SkillsBuild, the company’s global digital learning platform, and is designed to help students and working professionals become future-ready in a fast-changing digital economy.
IBM said the initiative will improve access to job-oriented and technology-focused education for learners across schools, colleges, universities and vocational training institutions. A strong focus will be placed on inclusion, ensuring that advanced technology education reaches a wider and more diverse group of students.
As part of the effort, IBM will work closely with organisations such as the All India Council for Technical Education to promote practical learning through AI-based courses, faculty training, curriculum support, hackathons and internship opportunities. The company is also expanding AI education at the school level by co-developing an AI curriculum for senior secondary students and providing teachers with structured learning resources.
IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna said India has the talent and ambition to become a global leader in AI and quantum technologies. He added that building skills in frontier technologies will play a key role in driving innovation, economic growth and long-term competitiveness for the country.
