Virtusa Buys SmartSoC to Boost Semiconductor, AI and Chip Design Capabilities

Virtusa has announced the acquisition of Bengaluru-based SmartSoC Solutions, a semiconductor engineering and integrated circuit design company. Although the deal value was not disclosed, Virtusa said the move strengthens its position in the fast-growing areas of AI, chip design and advanced silicon development. The company believes SmartSoC’s expertise in silicon design, verification and embedded systems will help it meet the rising global demand for next-generation semiconductor technologies.

Nitesh Banga, CEO of Virtusa, called the acquisition “transformational,” noting that it gives the company full-stack semiconductor engineering capabilities — from core silicon development to final customer applications. He added that as AI models grow more complex and data centres expand worldwide, having in-house chip design talent is becoming increasingly important.

The deal also expands Virtusa’s semiconductor engineering presence in India, adding teams across Bengaluru, Hubli and Hyderabad. SmartSoC brings more than 1,400 engineers skilled in VLSI, physical design and embedded software. The existing SmartSoC leadership, led by CEO Bharath Desareddy, will continue managing all client engagements and delivery operations.

Desareddy said the combined strengths of both companies create an end-to-end “chip-to-cloud” engineering partner. With Virtusa’s global scale and strong enterprise relationships, the merged organisation aims to accelerate innovation and support leading semiconductor and technology companies worldwide.
