India’s leading audio brand, boAt, has urged the government to impose an anti-dumping duty on True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds sold by Realme, according to industry sources. The request aims to safeguard domestic manufacturers from potential unfair pricing practices.

Market research firm IDC reports that boAt dominated the TWS segment with a 34% market share in Q2 2024, while Realme ranked fifth with a 6.4% share. Despite boAt’s steady 5.1% year-on-year growth, Realme saw an impressive 77.1% surge during the same period.

Sources reveal that boAt executives have presented their case to the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), and the proposal is currently under government review. However, official responses from boAt and Realme remain unavailable.

India’s earwear market saw a slight 0.7% year-on-year increase, reaching 20.1 million units in Q2 2024. The TWS segment, in particular, grew by 9.1%, capturing a record 71% market share, up from 65.5% in 2023.
