Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has launched the guidelines and portal for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), a major step in boosting India’s electronics manufacturing capabilities.

Speaking at the launch event, the Minister explained India’s journey from assembling finished products to now making components and materials, reflecting strong growth in production and exports. Electronics production has grown five times and exports six times, with mobile phones, laptops, and servers showing significant progress.

Vaishnaw emphasized that ECMS will not just support electronics but also industries like automotive and power. He called on companies to form design teams and achieve Six Sigma quality standards, warning that poor quality would not be tolerated. He also highlighted India’s AI advancements, mentioning 350 datasets on AI Kosh and upcoming AI tools from IITs.

The ECMS aims to attract investments, boost domestic value addition, and integrate Indian companies into global value chains. It offers differentiated incentives linked to turnover, capital expenditure, and employment, targeting key segments like sub-assemblies, bare components, and capital equipment. Applications will open from May 1, 2025, via the online portal.

During the event, Sarvam AI was chosen to build India’s first indigenous AI foundational model, marking a milestone in AI innovation. The event saw participation from over 200 industry leaders, embassy officials, and government representatives, highlighting strong support for India’s vision to become a global electronics hub.
