South Korean semiconductor major SK hynix reported a record operating profit of $7.9 billion for the third quarter of 2025, driven by an unprecedented surge in demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips. The company, the world’s second-largest memory chip maker and a key supplier to Nvidia, said profits rose 61.9% year-on-year to 11.38 trillion won, with an operating margin of 47%.
In its earnings statement, SK hynix attributed the strong results to higher prices of DRAM and NAND chips and increased shipments of high-performance memory used in AI servers. This marks the second consecutive quarter of record profits, following a 70% rise in April–June.
The company recently signed partnerships with OpenAI and Broadcom to supply advanced memory chips, further strengthening its position in the global AI ecosystem. It plans to expand production capacity and accelerate the transition to next-generation process technologies to meet soaring demand.
Chief Financial Officer Kim Woo-hyun said the firm will continue to lead in AI memory by offering innovative, high-performance products. Analysts expect the HBM market, central to AI computing, to grow tenfold by 2027, cementing SK hynix’s leadership in the rapidly evolving semiconductor industry.
