Hindalco to set up ₹586 crore aluminium plant in Andhra for iPhone parts

Hindalco Industries is set to invest ₹586 crore in a new integrated aluminium facility at Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, to support Apple’s iPhone manufacturing ecosystem. The plant, expected to be operational by March 2027, will produce aluminium for iPhone chassis and enclosures, leveraging the metal’s strength, durability, and lightweight properties. The project will generate more than 600 jobs over the next four years and will fall under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025-30.
With this development, Andhra Pradesh is aiming to enter Apple’s global supply chain. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been working towards building an iPhone manufacturing hub in the state, strengthening its role in India’s growing electronics industry. Kuppam’s location also adds to its strategic advantage, being just 120 km from Bengaluru’s Devanahalli, where Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn recently launched its second-largest plant outside China.
The move highlights Hindalco’s broader strategy to boost aluminium and copper smelting capabilities across India. At the company’s 66th Annual General Meeting, Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said the focus will be on expanding upstream capacity while ensuring consistent downstream growth, making Hindalco a stronger player in the global metal supply chain.
