ASML Holding NV, the world’s leading supplier of semiconductor equipment, has expressed interest in expanding its presence in India as the country accelerates efforts to build a domestic chipmaking ecosystem. Speaking at the Semicon India summit in New Delhi, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting India through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and advanced technology solutions.
ASML, headquartered in Veldhoven, Netherlands, is a key supplier to global chip giants like TSMC and Samsung. Its advanced lithography machines are essential for producing high-performance chips used in smartphones, medical devices, defense equipment, and artificial intelligence systems. While the company did not disclose details about possible sales or timelines, Fouquet emphasized that ASML’s expertise can help Indian fabs enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious goal of producing India’s first homegrown chips by the end of this year, aiming to reduce reliance on imports and create a robust semiconductor industry. India joins the US, Japan, and China in investing heavily in semiconductor capacity amid growing global demand. Although top chipmakers are yet to announce major investments in India, ASML’s interest signals growing confidence in the country’s chip ambitions.
