Order Inflows, Execution to Keep Growth Elevated for Bharat Electronics Despite Margin Pressure

Defence public sector company, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) delivered a strong revenue performance in the first quarter of FY27, supported by healthy project execution, even as lower operating margins and subdued order inflows weighed on investor sentiment. Analysts believe the company’s robust order pipeline and expected contract wins should help sustain growth over the coming quarters.

BEL reported a 25% year-on-year growth in sales for the April-June quarter, indicating speedier completion of defense programs. However, profitability fell short of forecasts due to rising raw material costs and an adverse product mix, which reduced EBITDA margins to roughly 25%, well below the company’s long-term guidance of more than 28%.

The company posted a standalone net profit of ₹1,048 crore, up 8.2% from the corresponding quarter last year, while revenue from operations rose to ₹5,533 crore. Despite growth, BEL’s shares came under pressure after the results, with investors focusing on the weaker margin profile and lower-than-expected quarterly order inflows.

FY27 management remains optimistic, reiterating its guidance of more than 15% revenue growth for the full year. BEL continues to expect order inflows of around ₹55,000 crore during FY27, driven by large defence procurement programmes, including missile systems, radars and electronic warfare equipment.

Early July 2026, BEL’s order book stood at ₹72,258 crore, providing strong revenue visibility over the next several years. Analysts note that the sizable backlog, combined with the government’s continued emphasis on defence indigenisation and higher capital expenditure, should support sustained execution and long-term earnings growth.

Despite the near-term margin disappointment, brokers have mainly maintained favorable recommendations for the stock. They expect future defense contracts, including big missile and surveillance projects, to boost order inflows in the coming quarters. Analysts caution, however, that in order to justify its premium price, BEL will need to increase profitability while sustaining execution progress.

With India’s defence modernisation initiative gaining traction and local procurement maintaining a top priority, BEL is thought to be well positioned to benefit from increased indigenous defence spending. Strong execution, a solid order book, and projected significant contract awards are expected to sustain the company’s development trajectory, even as investors keep a careful eye on profits.
