Taiwan-based electronics giant Foxconn has invested ₹276 crore in new machinery at its India unit to boost Apple device production, according to sources. This move aligns with the company’s goal to nearly double iPhone manufacturing in India. The development comes just before the U.S. announced reciprocal tariffs on multiple countries, including India, effective April 2.

Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Private Limited has acquired equipment worth $32.25 million to expand its production capabilities. Additionally, Foxconn is set to begin manufacturing Apple AirPods at its Hyderabad facility this month, making it the second Apple product produced in India after iPhones.

Meanwhile, India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) has proposed eliminating the 15% import duty on mobile phones from the U.S., citing a potential $80 billion export opportunity. Neither Foxconn nor Apple has commented on the latest developments.
