MeitY Finalizes PLI Scheme for Electronics Parts, Cabinet Approval Soon

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has prepared a ₹25,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics components, media reports said. The proposal is expected to be sent for cabinet approval this week, aiming to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
The scheme will focus on batteries, displays, camera modules, and printed circuit boards (PCBs), aligning with the government’s vision to strengthen India’s electronics supply chain. While industry stakeholders initially sought a ₹40,000 crore allocation, the new proposal is expected to attract investments worth ₹40,000-₹45,000 crore, reports suggest.
India’s electronics production has more than doubled in the last six years, reaching $115 billion in 2024, largely driven by mobile manufacturing from brands like Apple and Samsung. The PLI scheme is expected to boost investments, create jobs, and enhance India’s position as a global electronics hub.
Industry experts believe that local manufacturing incentives could strengthen supply chains, promote innovation, and increase production capacity. India is already the second-largest smartphone supplier globally, and this initiative could further integrate domestic manufacturers into the global electronics ecosystem.
