India Strengthens EV Manufacturing with New Units in Telangana

In a major push for India’s electronics and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing sector, Union Minister for Electronics & IT, Railways, and I&B, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday laid the foundation stone for four manufacturing units at the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Divitipally, Mahabubnagar District, Telangana.

The projects include:

  • Amara Raja’s Giga Factory-1, a 16 GW battery cell manufacturing and 5 GW battery pack plant covering 262 acres, with an investment of ₹9,500 crore over five years.
  • Lohum’s critical minerals refining and battery recycling unit.
  • Scell Energy’s cell casing manufacturing plant.
  • Altmin’s first LFP-CAM Giga Factory.

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw reaffirmed the government’s commitment to electric mobility, highlighting its efforts to build a strong infrastructure for EV manufacturing. He praised Indian innovation and emphasized the importance of localized EV supply chains.

The EMC in Divitipally is part of the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) Scheme, covering 377.65 acres and designed to boost electronics and EV production. The cluster has already allocated 307.47 acres to four companies, with a total investment of ₹10,574 crore and employment potential of 19,164 jobs (5,864 direct and 13,300 indirect).

Industry Leaders Applaud Initiative

Jayadev Galla, CMD, Amara Raja Energy and Mobility Ltd., expressed gratitude to the Government of India and PM Narendra Modi for their proactive support.

The event was attended by D. Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s IT & Industries Minister, MP Aruna D K, MLA Y. Srinivas Reddy, and senior industry representatives.
