Jabil, a US-based electronics manufacturer, has announced plans to establish a Silicon Photonics manufacturing facility in Gujarat, strengthening India’s position in semiconductor technology. The announcement was made by Matt Crowley, Jabil’s Executive Vice President, at the IESA Vision Summit.
Jabil has decades of expertise in Silicon Photonics, a critical technology for AI, 5G networks, autonomous vehicles, and medical applications. Crowley emphasized the company’s commitment to India’s semiconductor ecosystem, highlighting the signing of an MoU with the Gujarat government for the upcoming plant.
Jabil has been operating in India since 2003 and currently employs over 75,000 people. The new facility is expected to further boost India’s high-tech manufacturing sector.
Jabil’s existing electronics manufacturing operations in India are primarily owned by Reliance Industries. This expansion into Silicon Photonics aligns with India’s push for semiconductor self-reliance and advanced technology development.
