At the Advantage Assam Investors Summit 2.0 in Guwahati, Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced plans to sign MoUs with 10 additional semiconductor companies. This initiative aims to strengthen Assam’s semiconductor ecosystem, which is already attracting major global players like ASMPT, DISCO, Besi, Cadence, and Tokyo Electron (TEL).

The Tata Group’s ₹27,000 crore investment in a semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Assam will be the largest in Southeast Asia. Designed to produce 48 million chips per day, the facility is expected to generate over 30,000 jobs, driving high-tech industrialization in the Northeast. Assam is set to become one of India’s first semiconductor manufacturing clusters, fostering innovation and self-reliance in electronics production.

The summit, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, featured key Union ministers, including S. Jaishankar, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Piyush Goyal, and Nirmala Sitharaman. Tata’s commitment to install 5GW of renewable energy over the next five years further reinforces Assam’s role as an emerging industrial hub and ASEAN trade corridor.
