India’s First Indigenous Semiconductor Chip Set for 2025 Rollout: Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India’s first Made-in-India semiconductor chip will be ready for production by 2025, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s electronics industry. Speaking via video conferencing at the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, he highlighted Madhya Pradesh’s rapid strides in electronics manufacturing and IT development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Madhya Pradesh’s Electronics Sector on the Rise
Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for fostering an environment conducive to technological growth. He revealed that two Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) have been approved—one in Bhopal and the other in Jabalpur—laying the foundation for a booming electronics industry. Currently, 85 companies are actively engaged in electronics manufacturing in Madhya Pradesh, positioning the state as a key player in India’s digital transformation.
Building a Skilled Workforce for the Future
In line with India’s vision for technological advancement, Vaishnaw announced a Future Skills Program to train 20,000 engineers in Madhya Pradesh. Nationally, the government is equipping 85,000 engineers with advanced skills in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. The sector, which has grown to ₹10 lakh crore, now ranks among India’s top three export industries, with ₹5 lakh crore worth of electronics exports, including mobile phones (₹4 lakh crore), laptops, telecom equipment, and defense electronics.
Strengthening Semiconductor & IT Infrastructure
With five semiconductor units under development, India is set to make significant strides in chip manufacturing. Vaishnaw reiterated that the first indigenous semiconductor chip will roll out in 2025, a breakthrough that will reduce dependency on imports and strengthen India’s self-reliance in critical technology.
Inauguration of Madhya Pradesh’s First IT Campus
Madhya Pradesh is set to become a major IT and electronics hub with the inauguration of its first IT campus spanning 1 lakh sq. ft. The facility, backed by ₹150 crore investment, will manufacture IT hardware, including servers, desktops, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, drones, and robotics components. The campus is expected to generate 1,200 jobs over the next six years.
Government’s Vision for Future-Ready Infrastructure
Vaishnaw emphasized the Modi government’s focus on future-ready infrastructure, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The summit also saw the Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government sign agreements on renewable energy projects, reinforcing India’s commitment to sustainable growth.
