India-EU Workshop Strengthens Collaboration on EV Charging Technology

The India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) successfully hosted its first Workshop on Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Technology in Pune on February 24, 2025, marking a significant step toward standardized and sustainable mobility solutions.

Strengthening India-EU EV Cooperation

Organized by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), with support from the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, the workshop brought together policy-makers, industry leaders, and technical experts to explore harmonized EV charging standards, infrastructure, and interoperability.

Attendees included representatives from the Indian and European governments, standardization bodies, and testing facilities, including:

  • Dr. Monoranjan Mohanty (Adviser) and Dr. Hafsa Ahmad (Scientist), PSA Office.
  • Dr. Reji Mathai (Director) and Abhijit Mulay (Deputy Director), ARAI.
  • European Commission experts, including Dr. Liliana Pasecinic and Dr. Harald Scholz (joining virtually).

Key Discussions & Outcomes

The workshop focused on:

  • India-EU charging standards & infrastructure interoperability.
  • Future strategies for sustainable mobility & economies of scale.
  • EV charging system testing & research collaboration.
  • Industry insights on strengthening India-EU cooperation.

Participants also visited ARAI’s state-of-the-art EV testing labs, reinforcing bilateral efforts toward pre-normative research, knowledge exchange, and harmonized standards. The outcomes will be presented at the 2nd TTC Ministerial Meeting in New Delhi on February 28, 2025.
