STPI Expands in Kolkata with New Incubation Hub to Boost IT Exports

The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has launched a cutting-edge incubation facility at Salt Lake, Kolkata, to strengthen the IT ecosystem, encourage entrepreneurship, and enhance IT exports from West Bengal.

Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Electronics and Information Technology, inaugurated the facility, highlighting India’s vision of becoming a global technology leader. He emphasized the government’s focus on AI, GPUs, and expanding digital access to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Empowering Startups and Innovation

Arvind Kumar, Director General, STPI, described the facility as a hub for emerging technologies, including AI, IoT, Blockchain, and FinTech. With Kolkata’s strong academic and creative legacy, he sees the city playing a crucial role in India’s digital transformation.

Key features of the new incubation center include:

  • 200,000 sq. ft. workspace with 75,000 sq. ft. dedicated to incubation.
  • High-speed data infrastructure for IT/ITeS startups.
  • Comprehensive support with mentorship, industry collaboration, and networking.
  • Job creation through direct and indirect employment opportunities.
  • Driving India’s Digital Growth

With 67 STPI centers nationwide, including 59 in smaller cities, the organization continues to foster entrepreneurship. STPI also operates 24 domain-specific Centres of Entrepreneurship (CoEs), focusing on MedTech, HealthTech, Agritech, and Blockchain.
