The ongoing US-China trade tensions are driving India’s growing role in global supply chains. US electronics giant Anker has partnered with Chennai-based Munoth Group to source lithium-ion cells, a critical component in consumer electronics. This shift comes after the US government imposed a 25% tariff on lithium-ion cells imported from China, set to take effect in 2026.

Munoth Group’s advanced manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh, with a production capacity of 270 MWh, will supply Anker with one million lithium-ion cells per month. The collaboration, initially a six-month deal, signals a significant step in India’s emerging battery manufacturing sector. Munoth is expanding its production capabilities and enhancing testing infrastructure to meet rising demand.

Jaswant Munoth, Vice Chairman of Munoth Industries Limited, highlighted the strategic move, emphasizing the growing role of Indian manufacturers in the global electronics supply chain. This shift underscores India’s increasing significance as a key player in the global battery production landscape, driven by changing international trade dynamics.
