NIELIT Deemed to Be University Inaugurated in Assam: Boosting India’s Semiconductor and Tech Ecosystem

In a landmark event, the Governor of Assam Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma jointly inaugurated the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) Deemed to Be University in Guwahati. The university, operating across 12 locations, including five in the Northeast, aims to revolutionize education in digital technologies like AI, semiconductor manufacturing, and blockchain.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NIELIT and Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) to enhance the semiconductor skilling ecosystem. This partnership will establish skill centers, diploma programs, and internships, with a focus on the Northeast.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the university’s role in advancing India’s semiconductor mission and preparing a skilled workforce for emerging technologies. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized Assam’s pivotal role in global semiconductor manufacturing, supported by swift government action on land allocation for the university’s campus in Jagiroad.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NIELIT Deemed to Be University promises accessible, industry-driven education, empowering students nationwide while positioning India as a global technology leader.
