India Surpasses Digital Literacy Target: Over 6.39 Crore Trained Under PMGDISHA

The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) has exceeded its ambitious target of making 6 crore rural individuals digitally literate. As of March 31, 2024, over 6.39 crore individuals from rural households across India have been trained under this transformative initiative. The program, launched by the Government of India, aimed to empower one individual per rural household with essential digital skills, fostering digital inclusion nationwide.
In addition to PMGDISHA, the government has bolstered IT infrastructure in small towns through schemes like the India BPO Promotion Scheme (IBPS) and North East BPO Promotion Scheme (NEBPS). These initiatives have created job opportunities by providing financial incentives of up to ₹1 lakh per seat for BPO/ITES units while encouraging local entrepreneurship and hiring women and differently-abled individuals.
India continues to shine as a global IT leader, ranked among the top four nations in AI vibrancy by Stanford University. To sustain this leadership, MeitY has launched FutureSkills PRIME in collaboration with NASSCOM, focusing on upskilling in emerging technologies like AI, Blockchain, IoT, and Cybersecurity.
These efforts, alongside IndiaAI fellowships for engineering students, reinforce the country’s commitment to building a digitally skilled workforce for a tech-driven future.
