Vivo is intensifying competition in India’s premium smartphone segment, taking on giants like Apple and Samsung with the launch of its camera-focused X200 series. The brand aims to capitalize on the growing demand for high-end devices as Indian consumers increasingly upgrade to premium smartphones.

Vivo’s premium market share (₹30,000 and above) surged from 2% in 2020 to 16% in Q3 2024, according to the company. Vivo credits this growth to its premium X and V series, with models like the V40 Pro priced above ₹40,000 contributing significantly. The X200 series, launched on December 12, includes the X200 (starting at ₹65,999) and X200 Pro (₹94,999), though the compact X200 Mini was excluded due to consumer preference for larger devices.

Research by IDC and Counterpoint reveals Vivo led the Indian smartphone market by volume in Q3 2024, capturing a 15.8% market share and recording 20% year-on-year growth. Vivo attributes this success to its diverse portfolio, extensive offline retail network, and festive season promotions.

To sustain its growth, Vivo is scaling up manufacturing in India. The company invested ₹7,500 crore to double its production capacity and transform India into a global export hub. Vivo’s new Greater Noida factory is operational, with plans to optimize production lines and expand exports to markets like Bhutan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand.
