Appliance Industry Calls for Second Round of PLI and Tax Reforms to Enhance Global Competitiveness

The appliances and consumer electronics sector has urged the Indian government to launch a second round of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, focusing on high-value components like compressors and motors. The industry also seeks tax rationalisation and reduced import tariffs to boost global competitiveness. The Consumer Electronics & Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) emphasized the need to make Indian manufacturers more competitive on the global stage.
CEAMA President Sunil Vachani proposed establishing large centres of excellence along coastal areas, offering “plug-and-play” facilities to MSMEs and attractive land rates for large corporations. This initiative would further support the export competitiveness of the industry.
Vachani also advocated for more time for manufacturers to comply with Quality Control Orders (QCO) and BIS standards, which would ease business operations. The industry noted the success of the PLI scheme, with nearly ₹7,000 crore invested, increasing value addition in sectors like air conditioning and white goods. A second round of PLI would push value addition to nearly 95% within two years, the industry believes.
State Minister Jitin Prasada highlighted India’s growing role in global manufacturing and its ambition to be a major player in consumer electronics.
