MeitY Unveils e-Toycathon to Boost India’s Indigenous Electronic Toy Industry

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has taken a significant step towards building India’s indigenous toy industry ecosystem by announcing the Electronic Toy Hackathon (e-Toycathon). The announcement was made during the convocation ceremony of the first batch of 15 young engineers trained under MeitY’s flagship project, “Development of Electronics and IT-based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry).”
This initiative, designed to promote innovation in the electronic toys sector, equips engineers with the skills to develop cutting-edge prototypes while supporting under-represented communities. During the event, Sanjay Mehndiratta, MD of Toys Zone, offered job appointments to 10 of the graduating students, marking the program’s immediate impact.
Speaking at the event, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan highlighted the growing demand for electronic toys in India, emphasizing the role of Electronics and IT in creating a thriving toy ecosystem. He proposed establishing a Center of Excellence (CoE) in collaboration with STPI and other institutions to foster entrepreneurship and startups in the sector.
The convocation was attended by key industry leaders, including representatives from LEGO Group and the Toys Association of India, reflecting a unified effort to drive innovation and growth in India’s electronic toy industry.
