Japanese Companies Eye Strategic Semiconductor Partnerships in India: Deloitte

Japanese companies are increasingly keen to explore semiconductor opportunities in India, leveraging their expertise and technological capabilities to collaborate with local firms, according to Deloitte. This growing interest comes as India positions itself as a major player in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
India and Japan have already taken significant steps to strengthen their collaboration in this domain. Japan recently became the second Quad member, after the US, to sign a memorandum of cooperation with India, focusing on semiconductor design, manufacturing, equipment research, talent development, and supply chain resilience.
As one of the top five countries with a robust semiconductor ecosystem, Japan is home to global leaders in raw semiconductor wafers, chemicals, gases, and chip manufacturing equipment. For India, this partnership aligns with its ambitious goal of establishing 10 semiconductor manufacturing plants over the next decade.
Rohit Berry, President – Strategy, Risk and Transactions, Deloitte India, emphasized that the semiconductor sector in India is about building a comprehensive ecosystem, not just standalone factories. Successful growth will require strong partnerships between Indian and Japanese companies, a sustained government incentive program, and coordination between central and state governments.
This strategic collaboration could be a game-changer, driving India closer to becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse.
