Government Eases Import Rules for Electronic Chips by Scrapping Mandatory Registration

0

In a significant move to streamline chip imports, the government has eliminated the requirement for mandatory registration of certain electronic integrated circuits under the Chip Import Monitoring System.

Previously, importers of these items were required to provide advance information via an online platform and secure a registration number by paying a specific fee. However, this mandatory process has now been discontinued with immediate effect, as per a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

The relaxed rules apply to items such as electronic integrated circuits, memory devices, and amplifiers, reducing bureaucratic hurdles for importers.

This step is expected to simplify the import process, benefiting stakeholders in the electronics manufacturing and semiconductor sectors while bolstering India’s push towards becoming a global electronics hub.
